Laundry is something we all have to do, and saving money while doing laundry isn’t the easiest. You can coupon for detergents, or make your own, and then there’s line drying or the dryer. Living in the midwest the dryer is the main option for most of the year. Washing cloth diapers, baby clothes, my clothes, and Papa Budget’s clothes means a lot of laundry! This led me to search for ways to cut down on my drying time, without having to hang my clothes outside or inside on a rack. To my surprise, I found dryer balls!
Have you ever seen or heard of these little beauties? These dryer balls are from Lullaby Baby and they come in packs of 6, which is the perfect amount for most regular loads of laundry. If you are going to do a smaller load using 3 will work as well. They are made of 100% Premium New Zealand Wool. They are perfect in every way because they can replace dryer sheets, reduce drying time, are 100% natural, and are hypo-allergenic! Perfect for baby clothes or even cloth diapers!
The dryer balls come in an adorable bag, and for container/bag junkies like myself, this was the perfect touch. You can use it to store them, however I always leave mine in the dryer, so I’m pretty sure this bag will find a new use! They also come with a cute handmade sheep purse!
They may sound too good to be true, but I promise that once you give them a shot you won’t go back to your dryer sheets! If it’s the scent of the sheets you are missing you can simply put a drop or two of essential oils on the ball, let dry completely and then pop them in the dryer! Plus, they last a really long time, I purchased a set of 3 last year and they are still going strong! You can purchase your own set here, and then come back and let us know how you like them!
Shutterfly is offering 101 free prints after using coupon code “101TREATS” at checkout, however you do have to pay shipping which will start at $7.99. Yet, a fun little trick for anytime Shutterfly offers this promotion, only order 99 prints and still use the coupon code “101TREATS” and your shipping will only be $5.99! Shipping does vary per order so if you add more items than just the prints the shipping will increase, otherwise it’s free on orders over $39 using coupon code “SHIP39”. If you’ve never signed up for Shutterfly before, you will also receive 50 free prints!
Ikea is issuing a recall for over 27 million chests and dressers. If you aren’t familiar with Ikea they are a huge furniture/home goods store that you can wander around in for hours, eat lunch, and buy absolutely everything you need for a new home, without spending a ton.
However, they are issuing a recall on their chests and dressers which can tip over if not secured and cause entrapment. They are offering free wall anchor kits for consumers who own chests over 23.5 inches and dressers over 29.5 inches tall. Please visit them at www.IKEA-USA.com/saferhomestogether or call (888) 966-4532.
I currently have 6 of these chests in my own home and will be contacting Ikea for my wall anchor kits! Also, please note that not just Ikea dressers and chests pose an entrapment hazard. Any object that is not secured could possible tip or fall on your child. You can also visit www.AnchorIt.gov to learn more about securing furniture and other items in your house so that they do not pose a threat to your children.
Bexco the maker of Davinci cribs has issued a recall for cribs manufactured from May – December 2012. A metal bracket on the bottom of the crib can break and cause entrapment. If you still have one of these cribs please check the model numbers to see if your crib is being recalled here. If you have one of these cribs please stop using it and contact Bexco!
One of my favorite ways to save money is with rewards programs. Many brands offer a program which rewards you for purchasing their product, interacting with their brand, being active on their social media outlets, etc. Huggies has a rewards program where you can earn points by entering codes from their packaging, reading select articles, and even watching videos that they offer on their site from time to time.
Huggies wipes and diapers both contain codes for points. The codes can be found on the inside of packages on a little sticker. The amount of points that you will receive varies depending on what product you have as well as the size. Huggies Little Snugglers diapers have codes worth 5 points for the smaller packages and 45 points for the biggest package! It doesn’t seem like much but it sure adds up! I always take the codes off the package and set them in a pile to enter when I have time so that they don’t accidentally get thrown away!
Now you may be asking yourself, how does this help me save? There are two ways this can help you save. The first being that Huggies offers coupons for both their diapers and their wipes. The coupons do change from time to time, but they are always there!
The second way this can help you save is earning points means that there are rewards. When logged into your account you can click the rewards tab on the top of the page to see exactly what they are offering. I often pick out one item I would like and then set a goal of earning it. This year I have 2 Christmas presents for Baby Budget that I “earned” from Huggies!
They change their offers so if you have enough points for the item you want make sure you redeem them as soon as possible. The rewards vary from gift cards, free product coupons, Shutterfly offers, and toys. It’s easy to collect the points, and if you are buying the diapers or wipes anyways, it’s an easy way to be rewarded! If you haven’t already signed up for an account, you can sign up here and you will receive 50 points just for signing up!
Prime is a program that costs $99 for a year, but you can try it out for the first month for free here! They offer so many benefits including free 2-day shipping on a vast majority of items, a book lending library, instant music and videos, exclusive discounts, and the best part? Amazon Mom. To become an Amazon Mom member, you have to have a Prime membership, but Amazon mom is free once you have Prime! Amazon mom offers 20% off diaper subscriptions, and 15% off eligible items on your baby registry! Not having Amazon Prime means you can still shop there, but shipping will only be free on select items or on orders over $35.
Subscribe & Save:
When shopping on Amazon you may notice that there are two options on many products, a normal price and a Subscribe & Save price. Subscribe & Save gives you a 5-15% discount for signing up for a subscription. You can change or cancel your subscription at any time. Once you reach 5 subscriptions in one month, you will receive the 15% discount, otherwise it’s a 5% discount. Now reread the “cancel your subscription at any time”. That’s right, you can sign up for a subscription one month, and then cancel as soon as you receive your item if you no longer wish to receive it any longer. The price of diapers and wipes greatly fluctuates so sometimes I’ll sign up to save on some wipes, and the price will go back up so I will cancel my subscription. Even better, items purchased with Subscribe & Save ship for free!
Saving money is the goal right? Amazon makes that easy with Amazon clippable coupons. You can find the whole list of coupons by clicking on “Today’s Deals” on the top of the Amazon webpage, or you’ll sometimes find them right on a product page you may be viewing. If you scroll all the way down to the bottom of Today’s Deals you will see Top Coupons and below that “See more Coupons”. If you click that it will take you to all of the coupons that Amazon is offering at that time. You can filter by category, and then “clip” the coupon you wish to use. Keep in mind that each coupon can only be used once. However, they do change often so keep an eye out for new ones! If a product qualifies for a coupon you will see it on the coupon detail page, or right on the product page underneath the price.
Amazon Lightning Deals:
Amazon offers Lightning Deals and a Deal of the Day which can also be found by selecting “Today’s Deals”. You can sort these by category as well, there are two separate baby categories. Baby and Baby Clothing & Accessories. There are also other categories available that may feature children’s items such as Toys & Games, or Everything Else. Amazon Prime members are able to purchase Lightning Deals 30 minutes before everyone else.
Amazon Warehouse is a section of goods that may be used, have damaged packaging, or returned for some reason, and are now being resold. When purchasing these items make sure you check to see why the item was returned so that there are no surprises when you receive the items. You can often find greatly discounted items with only damaged packaging, which if you aren’t gifting the item it may make no difference!
Combine all of these together and you have a great way to shop from home and save money while doing so. One of my favorite things is to find items that qualify for Amazon coupons as well as Subscribe & Save so that the items ship free, and I save a little more than usual! I’ve been shopping Amazon for many years, and have found some great deals. Any time I’ve had a problem, which is rare, Amazon was quick to fix the problem, and returns are a breeze!
